Don’t buy wrong scan tool or diagnostic tool for your car
Before you purchase any scan tool or diagnostic tool make sure that you buy the one that fit your car or the one that can be used for you car. You can first find out the type of diagnostic link connector (DLC) your car have because there are were many difference scan tool or diagnostic tool outside there.
Diagnostic link connector (DLC) is a location where you can plug your scan tool or diagnostic tool when you want to detect your car trouble faults. Any old and new car that have check engine light or MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) or SES (Service Engine Soon) light in their instrument cluster have their own diagnostic link connector (DLC).
Around year 1982 to 1996 each car has their own diagnostic link connector (DLC) from their manufacturer. Let look into the sample where diagnostic link connector (DLC) located. Let use this as example, before year 1996 Toyota and Mercedes- Benz diagnostic link connector (DLC) located inside the car bonnet near the engine but some times Toyota can have two diagnostic link connector (DLC) locations, one can be located inside the car bonnet near the engine and the other one can be located inside the car, it can be located in the driver’s compartment in the area bounded by the driver’s end of the instrument panel and can be attached to the instrument panel and can easy to access from the driver’s seat.
Mercedes- Benz diagnostic link connector (DLC) socket look round while Toyota diagnostic link connector (DLC) look like rectangle that one located inside the car bonnet near the engine and the other Toyota one that located in the driver’s compartment in the area bounded by the driver’s end of the instrument panel look round and some pre-1996 cars diagnostic link connector (DLC) look like rectangle too. From year 1996 most all newer cars were OBD-2 compliant and their diagnostic link connector (DLC) look like D socket and it located in the driver’s compartment in the area bounded by the passenger or driver’s end of the instrument panel and can be attached to that instrument panel and can easy to access from the driver’s seat.
